SCENIC

Rehearsal Report # 13 (1.29.17)
- Nothing for tonight. Thanks!

Rehearsal Report # 12 (1.28.17)
- We would like to use three of the platforms during Act 1, Scene 3, the actors will move throughout those spaces during the scene. We will need to change out both the kitchen and the dining room area during intermission to set for Act 2.

Rehearsal Report # 11 (1.26.17)
- Nothing for tonight. Thanks!

Production Meeting # 3 (1.26.17)
- Chris reports the cast can be on stage tonight, Saturday and Sunday if Linda would like. Chris can meet them to let them in.
- Katryne showed Pinterest board of furniture inspiration – White walls, black trim with jeweled tone 80s-90s colors for the furniture.
- Trying to decide on flooring now – Wants things to be a similar color scheme with different textures in each room.
How to differentiate floors between house and Martha’s Vineyard ?
            – rugs versus no-rugs
- Butcher block counter – Trinity owns one we could borrow, or maybe we’ll build one with a sink in it.
- Going to be quite a production to change over at Intermission.
Sound will cover it with music from 1998 back to 1986.
We will need 15 minutes for the intermission
- What should the SR platform be in Act I? Linda will think about it… so we know how to dress it. Mudroom? Sunroom?
- Discussed a place to set glasses near the couch… Linda will try and think about using a side table and perhaps a coffee table when they’re in the space tonight. Katryne thinks a coffee table may take up too much walking space.
Laura suggested a foldable tray that she’ll bring in for rehearsal on Sunday.

- Next week while people are away at ACTF, the stage floor will be painted.

Rehearsal Report # 10 (1.25.17)
- Will there be a sink in the kitchen area, which is mentioned in Act 2, Scene 1
There can be if you want. But it's for looks. Lol.  - Katryne Hecht
For looks is absolutely fine with me!  Thanks :) - Linda

Rehearsal Report # 5 (1.18.17)
- Would there be room for a small coffee table in front of the couch on the living room platform for Act 1, Scene 3?
Not likely. side tables will have to suffice - Katryne.
Thanks, Katryne. I''ll make it work :)  - Linda

Production Meeting # 2 (1.18.17)
  • The area behind the set is not wide, but should be passable for an upstage exit to cross from one side to the other.
  • Katryne asked if we know when there might be a warehouse trip to look at furniture, but we do not know yet. It was also suggested that Linda and Katryne talk about the furniture beforehand, or that Linda might want to accompany Katryne to look at it.
  • Katryne asked if seating has been approved yet, and it has not.
  • The wedding photo prop that Joe and Lauren want to create might be put in the Martha’s Vineyard bedroom scene at the end of Act 2.

Email from Katryne
Linda,
Background. I've been giving it a lot of thought and research and I'm still leaning hard to an all black background. I just feel we can get a chic timeless void kinda thing. Especially with trying to "wrap" the audience around the action it will help with verisimilitude of view from all angles.

Can you give this some thought?

Hello Katryne, Tori, Chris, Marcia and Nicki,
Although I understand what  you are trying to accomplish, these images aren't the way that I see the play.

I'm looking for the juxtaposition of the light of an expected, pristine and controlled life to the darkness and reality of an unexpected life-changing event.  I would rather not have the darkness of the set telegraph the darkness of how divorce transforms Gabe and Karen's life.

If the placement of the set is causing difficulty in the design, Katryne, I don't mind if we rethink the logistics.

Thanks for all of this brainstorming!
Happy Saturday,
Linda

Production Meeting #1 (12.7.16)
-- Email from Katryne:
Unable to access my RIC email at the moment, but here's an initial concept for floorplan. Linda and I met and are in process, I'm working on some drawings and the details need to be hammered out but regardless we are going with a multi level "floating" space with heavy transitions of décor and furniture from act I to act II.  There will be no walls but hanging elements like windows, lighting practical or trim for indication and Linda would like to explore the use of a cyc for background color composition.  I'm toying with the idea of spreading out the audience and bringing them lower and closer than they typically tend to be in forman.
sum up, the goal isn't to overload on man hours or money but the space is very large. and will use a lot f furniture- for example we need a real bed not a theatricalized small one. I’m keen to know next production meeting or future production meeting dates to arrange better and over break work schedule ideas or goals.
- Linda showed sketches and ground plan to the rest of the team.
- It’s a different seating set up than we’ve done before, so we may need it approved by the fire marshall.
- We will need to redress the kitchen for the one scene in Martha’s Vineyard.
- Linda is interested in making the intermission transition interesting to watch. Maybe use understudies or crew to do the transition, but would like them in simple period costumes rather than blacks.
- Linda would like to make scene transitions interesting as well rather than just going to black and getting into place
- We will need a real sized bed.
